Things to see and do around Birmingham

Birmingham is the UK’s second city, and you won’t be disappointed by the vibrant whirl of rich culture on offer.

The city centre is a shoppers’ paradise, with the Bullring and Grand Central located in and beside Birmingham New Street – just a 6-minute train journey from University rail station. The Jewellery Quarter is a 15-minute drive from campus, and lives up to its name with an array of sparkle on offer.

To learn a little local history, visit the National Trust’s Back to Backs. The Birmingham Museum and Art Gallery holds an impressive collection of Pre-Raphaelite paintings, the Staffordshire Hoard, and much more. If you’re visiting with family, try the National Sea Life Centre, or Thinktank Science Museum.

Foodies have plenty of options, from the Balti triangle to Chinatown. The Digbeth Dining Club’s street food extravaganza is a treat every Friday and Saturday, or live out every chocoholic’s dream and visit Cadbury World, via a short train journey to Bournville station.

It’s a big, beautiful place and this is just a taste. For more information, check out the Visit Birmingham website.
