How We’re Helping You to Return to Campus Safely

On 19 July, unrestricted in-person events were given the green light to return after England’s lockdown restrictions were lifted. Whilst this is exciting for the events industry, we recognise that many of you may have received the news with a little trepidation.

Having lived most of our work and social lives through screens over the last 16 months, it’s understandable that returning to in-person events will be nerve-wracking for some. With this in mind, ‘business as usual’ may look a little different for the industry as we all adjust to living in a (near) post-COVID world. And, at the University of Birmingham, we’re no exception.

The health and wellbeing of our delegates and clients are paramount to us. That’s why we’re taking extra precautions as we move forward to ensure that everyone can return to campus with confidence. To demonstrate our commitment to this, we’re proud to be a part of Venues of Excellence’s ‘Confidence in Us’ campaign, which focuses on rebuilding delegates’ trust in face-to-face events after the challenges of the last year.

We place you centre stage

At Birmingham, we understand that every event and delegate is different. That’s why we tailor our service completely to your needs, never taking a ‘one size fits all’ approach. We’ll take the time to build a package that responds to your needs and respects your requirements, taking into consideration any concerns you may have about returning to in-person events. You’ll be right at the heart of the event planning process from start to finish.

We’re flexible

If the past year or so has taught us anything, it’s that plans can change in a heartbeat. That’s why we offer flexible contracts to ensure you’re protected if your event cannot go ahead due to COVID-19. We’ll work with you to find the next best date for your event, offering alternative venues depending on your requirements.

You also have the freedom to book a space that you and your delegates feel most comfortable in; we’re now offering our venues at normal and reduced capacities to make room for social distancing. We give you the decision to choose what works best for you to create an inclusive and comfortable event environment for everyone.

Alternatively, if you or your audience are eager for a phased return to face-to-face meetings, you can take elements of your conference or event online. You’ll receive full technical support so that you deliver a hybrid event with impact from the comfort of your own home.

You’re our priority

Delivering an excellent event experience that prioritises delegate welfare is what we’re all about.

To keep everyone safe on our premises, we are continuing to supply hand sanitiser, operate one-way systems in our venues, and carry out enhanced cleaning of all our spaces. Social distancing guidelines also remain in place and we encourage all staff and visitors to wear face masks indoors.
