How to be a greener delegate

How to be a greener delegate

If you’re visiting any of our venues for an event or conference, here’s how you can be sustainable as possible.

Think about your journey

There are a multitude of ways to travel to our campus responsibly.  We are the only UK University to have its own train station and we also benefit from excellent bus connections to Birmingham City. Our campus also offers electric charging points, bike racks and event electric scooters to hire.

Make use of our recycling facilities

Did you know food waste from our conferences and events are turned into green energy and we recycle used coffee grounds into energy logs? The University’s strategic aim is to be operationally net zero carbon by 2045 and we’re very mindful about reducing waste. All our venues have recycling bins available for you to use, and our event stewards can assist you if you need any assistance.

Take advantage of our green space

Why not take a break and unwind from your conference? The campus sits on over 26 acres of green space and there’s a wide variety of plant species and wildlife to enjoy, from peregrine falcons to muntjac deer. Discover our campus walks by downloading our campus map.

Bring your own water bottle

Refill your water bottle with free chilled, filtered water – available in many of our venues and from our water zip taps across campus. You’ll also get discounts if you use a keep-cup at our cafes.

Go paperless

Reduce unnecessary printing by using our free on-site Wi-Fi to download your event agenda to your phone or tablet.

Enjoy some low carbon activities

We are very lucky to have cultural and historical landmarks on our doorstep that are within walking distance of many of our venues, including the Lapworth Museum of GeologyBarber Institute of Fine Arts and Winterbourne House and Garden. Why not get some steps in and follow our Sculpture Trail across campus taking in a rich history of the University’s public art, from monumental bronzes to architectural friezes.

We have achieved the Green Meetings Gold Award, which is accredited by Green Tourism. Have you discovered our Green Conferencing Catering Package yet?
