University of Birmingham is at the heart of the West Midlands, the UK’s second-largest city, with excellent travel connections. Our campus is located in Edgbaston, just two miles south-east of the city centre.
We have our own train station on campus, making travelling by rail via central Birmingham or Birmingham International airport to the University simple. If you’re travelling from Western Europe, Eurostar connects a number of European cities to London St Pancras, with direct trains from London Euston to Birmingham New Street.
We are committed to reducing the environmental impact any event held at one of our venues. If you’re not able to complete your journey without travelling by road, please consider car sharing with other attendees. We also have an electric vehicle charging station for visitors on the roof level of the North East multi-storey car park.

Travelling by rail
Birmingham New Street is a hub for travel from across the country, and links directly with or University (Birmingham) station via a high-frequency service that takes only six minutes.
The centre of the main campus is a five-minute walk from the University station.

Travelling by bus
Frequent bus services run from the city centre to campus. Bus services X20, X21, and X22 stop directly outside the University’s North Gate and University Station, whilst services 61 and 63 stop outside our Sport & Fitness centre. Plan your journey on the National Express West Midlands website.
Travelling by car
Approaching from the north west or south east along the M6:
Leave at Junction 6 (signposted Birmingham Central) to join the A38 (M).
At the end of the motorway, keep to the right, go over a flyover, then through some underpasses to join the A38 Bristol Road. The University is on your right, two and a half miles from the city centre.
Approaching from the M42 north:
Leave at Junction 8 to join the M6 northbound and follow the instructions above.
Approaching from the south west:
Leave the M5 at Junction 4 signposted Birmingham SW to join the A38.
The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway.
Approaching from the M40:
It is easier to turn south on the M42 and leave at Junction 1, heading north on the A38 Bristol Road. The University is approximately eight miles from the motorway.
Parking:
Visitor parking is available at North East Multi-storey Car Park (Pritchatts Road, B15 2SA).
There are five floors in total, however, the ground floor is reserved for Edgbaston Park Hotel guests only. Should you wish to charge your electric car, there are two EV charging stations on the car park’s roof level (charges apply). Please note that this car park does not have a lift.
Parking charges apply Monday to Sunday, between 8am and 6pm. This includes bank holidays and University Closed Days. Parking after 6pm is free. Charges start from £3.40 and are capped at £10 (as of October 2024) Monday to Friday. If you park here at the weekend or on a bank holiday, you will be charged a flat day rate of £2.50. Payments can be made through RingGo (location 15677) or via the payment machines on floors one to five.
Please be advised that enforcement procedures are in place at all University car parks and that penalty notices may be issued to drivers that fail to comply with University Traffic Regulations.
Travelling by air
You can travel to us quickly by rail from Birmingham Airport (BHX). Simply catch a train from Birmingham International to Birmingham New Street and then change lines to University station. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or dive to us in approximately 30 minutes (12 miles).
Directions to The Exchange
The Exchange is in the heart of the city at 3 Centenary Square, Birmingham, B1 2DR.
Travelling by rail
The nearest train station to The Exchange is Birmingham New Street, a short 10-minute walk away. Snow Hill and Five Ways stations are 0.7 miles away, whilst Moor Street is 0.9 miles from the venue. All are within a 20-minute walk of The Exchange.
Visiting us from campus?
Hop on the train at University station, stop off at Birmingham New Street, and walk to The Exchange within 20 minutes (service permitting).
Travelling by metro
West Midlands Metro takes you directly to Centenary Square from New Street Station/Grand Central. From here, there are only two quick stops until you arrive at The Exchange (stop Library).
Travelling by bus
Centenary Square is served by several bus routes, and the nearest bus stop is Baskerville House. Plan your journey easily online.
Travelling by car
Centenary Square cannot be accessed directly by car. Therefore, we recommend putting the postcode of your chosen car park into your satnav, rather than The Exchange’s postcode.
The Exchange lies within Birmingham’s Clean Air Zone. You can find out if you need to pay for your vehicle via the GOV.UK website, as well as pay the daily fee (if eligible) after or before your journey.
Parking
There is no on-site parking at the venue, however, you’ll find plenty of pay-and-display parking nearby. The nearest multi-storey car parks are Paradise Circus, Town Hall, and Navigation Street, just a 5-minute walk away (0.3 miles). Street parking is also available at Bridge Street, just 5 minutes away.
The nearest car park to The Exchange with designated Blue Badge parking bays is Cambridge Street. From here, the venue is just 192 yards away. A good alternative is Paradise Circus multi-storey car park (243 yards away).
Travelling by air
Take a train from Birmingham International to Birmingham New Street, before walking to The Exchange. The trip in total should take you under 30 minutes.
