It’s one of the most joyful major sports tournaments – and next year the Westfield Health British Transplant Games will be hosted at University of Birmingham, a four-day celebration of what people can achieve after undergoing an organ transplant.
As the Official Accommodation Partner, we’ll be providing a dedicated Games Village for around 1,500 athletes, coaches, supporters and families at The Vale Village, from 29 July to 1 August.
The British Transplant Games is one of the UK’s most inspiring sporting events, highlighting the life-changing impact of organ donation while bringing together transplant recipients and living donors of all ages to compete across a range of sports. As Europe’s largest transplant centre for children and adults, Birmingham is the Games’ natural home, and an associated conference bringing together some of the world’s experts in transplant medicine will take place here just before the sports begin.
The announcement follows the handover from the 2026 Games in Sheffield at the weekend.

The Games Village
As one of the UK’s leading venues for major sporting event and conferences, University of Birmingham brings extensive experience in hosting large-scale events. In 2023, the University welcomed athletes from around the globe the IBSA World Blind Games, following the huge success of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Their largest student village The Vale offers comfortable accommodation, landscaped surroundings and excellent transport connections, just a few minutes’ walk from campus. During the British Transplant Games 2027, it will become a vibrant hub for competitors and their families, creating opportunities to connect, celebrate achievements and build lasting friendships.
Transplant conference
Professor Adnan Sharif, Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician Honorary Professor at the University of Birmingham, will organise the two-day associated academic conference on Tuesday 28 and Wednesday 29 July, with Prof Robert Montgomery – one of Times Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People of 2025 – as plenary speaker.
Professor Sharif said: ‘Bringing together clinicians, researchers and patients around the Games will give us a unique opportunity to share the latest advances in transplant medicine while celebrating the outcomes that make this work so worthwhile.
‘The conference will explore some of the most important developments in transplantation today, from improving patient outcomes and expanding access to transplantation to the latest innovations in clinical practice and research.
‘Having Professor Robert Montgomery join us as a plenary speaker reflects the calibre of expertise that we are able to bring to Birmingham. I am looking forward to a conference that matches the ambition, energy and sense of possibility that make the British Transplant Games such a special event.’
