Delegates can enjoy a 20% rail discount when they travel for a conference at University of Birmingham
Conference & Events has partnered with West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway to offer a fantastic rail discount for delegates attending events at University of Birmingham.
The initiative was introduced following findings from the University’s carbon tracing pilot project, which identified delegate travel as the largest contributor to event-related carbon emissions. By encouraging more delegates to travel by rail, the scheme supports the University’s commitment to reducing the environmental impact of conferences and events.
Delegates attending qualifying events can receive 20% off selected Adult Single and Open Return tickets on West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway services to and from Birmingham.
To access the discount, delegates simply request a discount code through the University of Birmingham Events Management Team after confirming their attendance at a qualifying event.
The discount is available on selected Anytime, Off-Peak and Super Off-Peak tickets and is designed to make sustainable travel a more affordable option for event attendees.
University of Birmingham Conferences and Events Project Manager Annaliese Stanton said: ‘Our clients tell us they want their events to be as sustainable as possible. How does it work?
- Delegate confirms attendance at a qualifying event
- University of Birmingham’s Events Management Team sends a booking confirmation, including information on how to request a discount code
- The delegate requests a discount code from the Events Management Team
- Delegates receive the discount code, together with the terms and conditions and instructions on how to book

How does the offer code work?
- Each code can only be used once.

How do I apply the discount?
- Visit the West Midlands Railway website or app.
- Enter your journey details.
- Choose travel dates within the event’s specified travel window.
- Select one passenger and enter your promo code in the Add Railcards/Promo Code field.
- Select Find Times and Tickets.
- Choose Our Trains to ensure you only see eligible services.
- Check that the discount has been applied before completing your purchase.
- If your journey includes another train operator, the discount will not apply.
- Only one code can be used per booking.
