Things to see and do around campus

When you’re visiting for an event or conference, you want to fill your leisure time with local culture and unique experiences. There’s no need to travel far.

The University of Birmingham campus benefits from its own museums, gardens, art gallery and concert hall – all in easy walking distance from your campus accommodation.

Winterbourne House and Garden is a stunning Arts and Crafts house: a family home lovingly recreated with period features, set in 7 acres of beautiful botanical gardens. Take a relaxing stroll along the Nut Walk or over the Japanese Bridge, or visit the house to learn more about the family that built it, before enjoying afternoon tea in the Terrace Tea Room. With a convenient location beside the Conference Park, it’s a must-see – and if you’re staying with us, entry is free.

The Barber Institute of Fine Arts is a remarkable gem: an art gallery home to works by virtually every major name in art history, from Rembrandt to Toulouse-Lautrec, Rubens to Magritte. Entry is free.

The Lapworth Museum of Geology houses a historic collection of rocks and fossils, and offers a lively and informative journey through the history of our planet featuring dinosaurs and volcanoes. It’s free to visit, and well worth your time.

Take in a show in the evening at the Bramall, the university’s state-of-the-art concert hall. As well as classical music, the inventive programme features regular stand-up comedy, live rock and spoken word events, at amazing prices. Find out what’s on while you’re staying here.
