University of Birmingham joins Venues of Excellence

Two of the University of Birmingham’s most impressive venues have been awarded Venues of Excellence accreditation.

The Great Hall is the centrepiece of the University’s original red-brick buildings, known as Aston Webb. It’s entered via a distinctive domed marble rotunda on two levels – ideal for setting the scene with a drinks reception. Inside is a grand late-Victorian space, creating the right tone for important academic conferences, exhibitions and dinners.

The Bramall is home to the Elgar Concert Hall, with seating for up to 419. This purpose-built performance space offers an in-house team of AV experts to lend atmosphere and drama. With a stage that adapts and lowers and adjustable acoustics, it really showcases whatever you choose to put on stage, from keynote speakers to product launches.

Both venues are close to convenient breakout rooms and lecture theatres, with space for marquees on the lawns outside. They’re also connected by a wide corridor inside Aston Webb, making it easy to keep your whole event in one space.

A perfect balance

Now, both venues have been accredited as Venues of Excellence. Membership of this collection of venues is available only to specialist event locations at the top end of the meetings sector, which deliver excellent conferences, training and events.

“Our assessment team were amazed by the spaces at the venue. We felt it really embodied what a good academic venue should be – a perfect balance of grandeur and esteem with the same high level of technical excellence you’d expect from a purpose-built meetings and events space. We’re thrilled to welcome the venue to our portfolio and to add another prestigious academic venue to our membership group.”

Criteria for the independent assessment team include facilities and customer service, through to technology and environmental impact: all things the Conferences & events team really take pride in.

“We are delighted to be accepted as a member of Venue of Excellence and excited about the opportunities ahead.  The membership gives our customers a guarantee of the highest quality standards. We look forward to working with other members that, like us, strive to deliver excellence in conferences, training and events”.
